  • ArtReach San Diego’s After School Art Classes provide students with an inspiring, professional studio experience. Voted Best Art Classes for Kids in San Diego Magazine’s Best of 2025, our 6-week programs cultivate creative confidence, social-emotional growth, and technical skills through hands-on projects led by practicing artists. In our Sewing class, kids ages 8-12 will practice hand-sewing techniques and basic stitches while learning safe machine operation and simple troubleshooting. They develop project-planning skills, moving from initial sketches to finished pieces, and create functional and decorative items such as pouches, pillows, and small accessories. Participants will learn about the urgent need to move towards more sustainable models in fashion, connect with sustainable vendors, shop from local makers, and take part in a clothing swap. At our clothing swap, all items are free. Participants are welcome to give and not take, and vice versa. For those donating to the swap, you can bring clothing, shoes, and accessories (i.e., purses, hats). Limit is up to 2 grocery-sized bags total per person.   • The original "The Crow Show" returns for its twelfth year at The Studio Door, continuing an annual exhibition that has become a San Diego tradition. Each edition invites artists to respond to the crow as both subject and symbol—observed in daily life, reimagined through myth, and interpreted across contemporary practices. This year’s exhibition features 100 works by artists from 25 U.S. states and Canada. More than half of the show is presented in the gallery, with additional works available to view and collect online below. In this talk, Kara West, a librarian managing the material library for one of the world’s largest architecture and design firms, will share how these unique libraries support designers and architects in exploring building materials—allowing them to see, touch, and understand their properties and applications. A selection of innovative and sustainable materials, including textiles, tiles, and solid surfaces, will be available to browse during the event. About Kara West Kara West is the Resource Librarian and a Senior Associate at Gensler San Diego, where she oversees the design library and serves on the firm’s core leadership team for Resource Directors. A champion of Gensler’s Product Sustainability (GPS) Standards, she leads firmwide training and oversees material vetting for flooring categories. Kara holds an M.A. in Library and Information Science from San José State University and a B.A. in Art History from UC Santa Cruz.
