Women founders and investors are invited to join Stella’s “Mission to Money” by participating in the ninth annual Women’s Venture Summit on Friday and Saturday, September 16-17 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. PDT. This event is an effort that has helped Stella facilitate $71 million in fundraising dollars for women-led companies. “Women’s Venture Summit will address the conditions women are facing in a post-peak-pandemic world, including lower workforce participation and a squeeze on funding,” says Stella CEO Raven O’Neal. “We are serious about increasing female founders’ access to capital and giving new and seasoned investors the guidance they need to invest in more women-owned companies.” After offering virtual attendance for two years, Stella will welcome individuals to an in-person event sponsored by UBS with access to high-profile speakers, powerful panelists and inspiring roundtable discussions. It was at the urging of these giants, that Vicky Farewell would find her sound and ultimately her own voice. Crywank was started in Manchester in 2009 by Jay Clayton as a solo project despite having no previous experience playing guitar. The project started the night Clayton learnt their first two chords and wrote the songs (Welcome to Castle Irwell and Thomas Saunders Gang Chant). Lyrically focusing on the end of their first relationship and musically heavily influenced by American folk punk and anti-folk, their first album "James is Going To Die Soon" became a cult favourite on the internet, both for its charm and many flaws. After their first release Crywank began to play with and subvert the role of singer songwriter. Shifting the focus from self-pity to self-criticism and fluctuating from hard-hitting confessionals to tongue-in-cheek deconstructions resulted in Crywank’s "sad-but-fun" sound. Dan Watson (ex-GNOD, Denim & Leather, Prangers) joined the band in 2012 on percussion and began to implement approaches and influences not often seen within ‘anti-folk’, at points going into d-beat and blastbeats. Crywank have since self-released eight records and have amassed a dedicated following online. Despite being self-managed, unsigned and their name getting in the way of radio play or press coverage, Crywank have had over 100 million streams and have toured internationally. Crywank announced they would be breaking up in July 2020 following a world tour, but this was cut short after five continents due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Where The Bombpops had a Fear of Missing Out on their 2017 debut full-length, their highly anticipated follow up shows what happens when you’re too involved—with booze, bad situations, and behavior that’s unsustainable at best and destructive at worst. This is Death in Venice Beach (Fat Wreck Chords, March 13), the comedown after the high, when clarity pierces the morning-after haze. It’s right there in the title, an allusion to Thomas Mann’s celebrated novella about the price of an artistic life. The Bombpops co-founder and singer-guitarist Jen Razavi read it as the band debated titles for their second full-length. “It’s a cautionary tale to those that want to become an artist,” she says, “but it’s also really comforting to artists who can’t help or necessarily contain being who they are and what they’re drawn to.” What draws The Bombpops hasn’t changed: highly melodic punk with big guitars, vocal harmonies, and the SoCal sound that inspired Razavi, co-founder and singer-guitarist Poli van Dam, bassist Neil Wayne, and drummer Josh Lewis. But the more light-hearted skate punk of Fear of Missing Out has a serrated edge on Death in Venice Beach, as Razavi and van Dam explore darker themes—even though the songs are catchier than ever. Haru Nemuri has announced her triumphant return to North America with a string of live dates kicking off October 1 in Montreal, QC as part of POP Montreal 2022. Haru captivated audiences earlier this year with her talked about live shows leading to epic performances at SXSW where she was reined “one of the best performances” writers saw that year. Her mix of emotion, passion, energy, and guttural screams on stage have left those who see her in awe and wanting to find out more about the Japan based singer, songwriter and poetry rapper. The tour is in support of Haru’s newest album release, "Shunka Ryougen", out now. The album was heralded by publications like Pitchfork, The Fader, Paste Magazine, noting, “blending elements of J-pop, rap, and hardcore, the experimental Japanese artist’s latest album presents a convincing balance of nihilism and hope,”.
