Do you enjoy listening to a good story? Being read to is enjoyable for everyone! Every 3rd Tuesday of the month we will read two short stories out loud to you. These stories may have you on the edge of your seat in suspense, drifting off to the sound of the words, or full in your feelings. So sit back and relax while we read to you, with a brief intermission, and then finish off with an engaging discussion. This hybrid program allows for virtual and in-person attendance. Note: Though this class is offered as part of the Novel Writing Certificate Program, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. In this six week workshop, students will expand upon what they have learned about the key components of novel writing. The focus of this workshop will be on character development, scene building, narrative structure and the process of writing a first draft. Participants will be encouraged to submit a chapter of their work for peer review. Previous Novel Writing Certificate classes are recommended as a prerequisite. In this three-hour workshop, we’ll look at the role of nature and non-human animals in stories and learn how to render both with compassion and authenticity. Through examples and writing prompts, we’ll examine ways you can reveal the natural world in your writing, including establishing setting, doing research, and capturing sensory detail. We’ll also look at how to authentically portray non-human animals in ways that honor their individuality and true selves.
