Enjoy a hands-on ukulele group class with a Classics 4 Kids instructor, sip on your choice of wine, beer, or a tropical mocktail, and indulge in a delicious island-inspired buffet. Learn to play a classic song by the end of your lesson while supporting music education! This class is designed for beginners, but all levels are welcome. Instruments will be provided during the class, or bring your own. Participation in the ukulele group class is optional. All funds raised at this event will build our new Ukulele Scholarship Program to bring skilled Classics 4 Kids instructors into under-resourced schools, giving students the chance to experience the joy of music-making and the accomplishment of learning and performing a song!   • Stretch Affect, known for their concierge physical therapy and movement optimization, is throwing a Grand Opening Fundraiser this Sunday May 18 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at their new 10,000-square-foot facility in Sorrento Mesa (9945 Pacific Heights Blvd, San Diego, CA 92121). The event aims to raise $50,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation and will feature a Paralympian guest speaker, and a live auction boasting signed sports memorabilia, training packages, travel getaways, and more to further help propel fundraising efforts. The fundraiser will also include demonstrations of wheelchair tennis and racing, and hands-on access to state-of-the-art fitness and recovery technology—including DEXA scans, 3-D motion capture from Kinotek, and interactive showcases by Blazepod, Gibbons, Matrix, and Hyperice.   • “Hybrid” writing is becoming part of main stream literature. This lively class will explore unusual, interesting forms of writing–ideal for writers of both poetry and prose. Each week will focus on one experimental form. Craft lessons will introduce each form, and we will read aloud and discuss several examples. Prompts will allow students to practice and experiment with that week’s form, and sharing will be encouraged but not required.
