This is a unique opportunity to study with two accomplished and warmhearted artist-educators in the same course. Ken and Stephanie are both well known for their ability to help each person find their own unique drawing abilities. For the first three weeks, Stephanie will introduce you to well-founded drawing techniques by working from carefully selected high-quality past and present master portraits and figures. Beginners are encouraged to start out with pencil or charcoal, while those with more experience may work in other mediums of their choosing. During the last three weeks, Ken will introduce color theory to portraits and figures using watercolor. But you can use any medium of your choice, as Ken also works in oils, acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, etc., and the same color concepts apply to all mediums. All levels are welcome because instruction and demonstrations are given on an individual and group basis. Materials: Since this is an online class, just use the materials you are already comfortable with. You do not need to buy anything on this list. It is just a suggestion: the simpler the better. For gestures, you need only newsprint; a drawing board (a piece of 3/16” thick foam-core drawing support cut to 19” x 25”, with four bulldog clips); very soft vine charcoal; a kneaded eraser; and one color-pastel for accents. Suggested optional materials by medium: Graphite: two mechanical pencils (a 2 mm mechanical holder with 4B leads and a 0.5 mechanical pencil with 2B leads); kneaded eraser; blending stump; small sanding block; rag; drawing pad, 18” x 24”, Strathmore 300 Series (or any brand you have); drawing support mentioned above. (2024) Sally Gearhart was a charismatic trailblazer who led the charge in the 1970s and '80s lesbian feminist movement, leaving an indelible mark on women’s rights and LGBTQ+ equality. A brilliant and magnetic superstar, she inspired thousands with her unapologetic activism and visionary leadership. Yet, by 2008, her pivotal contributions had been all but forgotten, her legacy notably absent from the Hollywood film Milk. How could history overlook Sally Gearhart? This is the story of a revolutionary figure who cannot be erased. SPECIAL GUEST: Ondine Rarey Ondine is a filmmaker, editor, and writer. Her documentary FOOLS AND HEROES was a Grimme-Preis nominee (the German equivalent of an Emmy), airing on ARTE in France as well as stateside on PBS. She has edited well over a dozen documentary features and shorts, including "Now en Español" (for PBS), "A Great Ride," "Who Will Write Our History" and, “Rebel Hearts” an official selection at Sundance 2021. At Point Loma Church we will celebrate the birth of Christ throughout the day on Christmas Eve. The services will begin at 10 a.m. in the Chapel. This is a more casual service of carols, a message and treats. Then at 4 p.m. our children will lead us in their annual Christmas musical in the Sanctuary and via livestream. After the children's service, we will have a Living Nativity on the Plaza from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. We will wrap up with two identical services in the Sanctuary at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. These traditional Christmas Eve services include, carols, choir music and candles.
