  • Looking to enhance your woodworking skills? Curious about using hand tools and shaping wood? In this one-day workshop, students will learn about the properties of wood and how different wood species need to be approached when sanding and finishing. We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. The skills learned in this course will allow you to elevate your future projects by adding curves and texture. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spokeshaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. Whether you’re new to the woodshop or have extensive woodworking experience, we welcome you to join us for an afternoon of shaping wood! Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. About Woodworking for Women & Non-binary | The Woodworking for Women class series is designed to empower women & nonbinary individuals in a supportive and educational woodshop environment which is predominantly a male-dominated space. In this series, most workshops and classes are project-based. The series covers the properties of wood, machine safety, and techniques on various tools and machines. Most classes also introduce various machines, sanding, glue-up methods, and finish techniques for finishing your project.   • The Hausmann Quartet and Maritime Museum of San Diego are excited to partner to present the eighth season of "Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime", a quarterly concert series performed aboard one of the Museum’s historic world-class vessels, the 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley that operated for 60 years on San Francisco Bay. Four concerts will be performed throughout the year at the Maritime Museum February 26, May 21, September 17 and November 19. All concerts are Sundays at 2:30, and include an intermission for a total length of under two hours. Each creative program will also include informative and entertaining commentary between selections from noted UC Santa Barbara musicologist Derek Katz.
