Come ride our decorated vintage railcars through the San Diego County back country as fall descends upon Campo, CA. The Pumpkin Express winds down the hill through some of the most scenic parts of the historic San Diego and Arizona Railway. After the train returns to the museum grounds, passengers head to the Display Building where children and their parents enjoy decorating pumpkins from our outdoor pumpkin patch and viewing our collection of Halloween scenes and haunted train cars. Pumpkins are included in the purchase of every Toddler and Child ticket on the Pumpkin Express! Additional pumpkins may be purchased. Passengers of all ages are encouraged to arrive in costume. Step aboard the oldest active pilot boat in the country for a narrated bay cruise! Launched in 1914, the Pilot served as San Diego’s chief pilot craft until her retirement in 1996. Throughout her active career, she guided thousands of major commercial ships safely in and out of the bay. Built locally in San Diego at a small yard, the Pilot spent her entire career navigating the waters of San Diego Bay and its approaches. For generations, harbor pilots relied on the Pilot to brave all weather conditions, guiding incoming merchant ships that brought cargoes and passengers vital to the growth of San Diego’s urban seaport. Restored by the Maritime Museum of San Diego and relaunched in 2002, the Pilot invites you aboard for a 45-minute bay tour, where you can explore the rich history of San Diego Bay from the deck of this historic vessel. Daily Historic Bay Cruises are only $10 with purchase of general admission. "From the Ground Up: A History of Local Queer Activism" chronicles the rich legacy of LGBTQ+ organizing in San Diego, showcasing the foundational work of trans and BIPOC queer activists who built the movement from grassroots efforts. The exhibit features historical artifacts, personal narratives, and archival materials that document key organizing campaigns, including the local ACT UP chapter's fight during the AIDS crisis and other pivotal moments in the community's ongoing struggle for justice and equality. Visitors will discover how local activists created networks of support, challenged discriminatory policies, and established the infrastructure that continues to serve San Diego's queer community today. The Navy SEAL Museum San Diego is set to open on October 4. It marks an expansion of the National UDT-Navy SEAL Museum into a region where Navy SEALs are a unique part of the character, yet lacked a dedicated museum until now. Once open, the Museum aims to inspire visitors to serve a cause higher than themselves.
