  • Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center is inviting the community to come kick off the holiday season and shop local vendors at the Annual Holiday Bazaar. The Holiday Bazaar will take place on Saturday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Olivewood Gardens and will feature more than 40 local vendors and Kitchenista entrepreneurs, and food for purchase prepared by our High School Culinary Program Interns. The free community event is an opportunity to discover handmade goods, holiday gifts, and treats. All proceeds will support the growth of locally owned small businesses. A variety of unique, locally made products will be available for purchase, including handmade scented soaps, candles, salsa macha, local honey, sourdough bread, tamales, jewelry, handbags, knitted wear, and much more. Kitchenista entrepreneurs will be selling artisanal breads, handcrafted jewelry, and Mexican artisan goods. A variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals will be available for purchase to support Olivewood’s programs. Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center promotes health equity, food access, and community building. Proceeds from the Holiday Bazaar will help Olivewood continue to provide resources, programming, and nutritious food access to the community it serves. Olivewood collaborates with the community of National City and neighboring areas to increase access to fresh foods and vegetables and green spaces, fostering a healthier and more equitable future for all families.   • Get ready to flow into the "Depth of Field" that is deep autumn with poetry, string music, local artisans, and Good Neighbor Gardens! On Sunday afternoon, November 16, Poet Tree Productions presents "Depth of Field", a matinee of live music, poetry, and artisans to reset your default. With poets Allisa Cherry, Majda Gama, & Heidi Seaborn, musicians Rebecca Matayoshi & Evan Pasternak, and artisans Beth Peters, Josh Bariuan of Fir Street Pottery, Carla Wilson Studio & Laura Christensen Studio. In honor of a month of gratitude, we're also hosting Good Neighbor Gardens to share what they're nurturing in gardens, education, food boxes, and sharing abundance with those in need.   • El Chingon the “Bad Ass Mexican” hotspot at 560 Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, will raise awareness for men’s health this “Movember” with a mustache-themed fundraiser supporting the California IMPACT foundation. On Sunday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 23, guests can purchase a fun mustache accessory at the restaurant and receive a complimentary drink ticket in return, all while helping raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer treatment. From 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on both dates, guests can get involved in this playful, yet purposeful, campaign. Each mustache purchased will directly support the California IMPACT foundation, the largest prostate cancer treatment program in the country. The foundation provides free prostate cancer treatment and services to qualifying California residents, making a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the disease. Mustache purchases are limited to two per person.
