The San Diego Indian Health Center (SDAIHC), whose mission is to promote excellence in health care with respect to custom and tradition, is holding free weekly Inter-Tribal Council of Elders gatherings to improve the quality of life for American Indian/Alaska Native Elders, families, and children in the San Diego area in a respectful and traditional manner. The Inter-tribal Council of Elders meets at SDAIHC, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to Noon, in the health center’s community kitchen, located at in the Board Room at SDAIHC (2630 First Avenue). Meetings are potluck style, and everyone is invited to bring a favorite dish to share. All family and friends are welcome to attend, and dates are subject to change. To improve the quality of life, the Inter-Tribal Council of Elders encourages attendees to maintain a connection to an active tribal community. This connection supports a healthy tribal identity with the goal of advocating for and improving access to services that ensure the safety and well-being of all elders so they can fulfill their roles as keepers of local history, customs, and traditions.
