PRESENT TENSE ARTIST TALKS are quarterly events hosted by Medium Photo that spotlight emerging voices in photography. Each program begins with a public portfolio walk, where eight artists share a recent photographic project in an informal, conversational setting. From there, four photographers are selected to deliver 15-minute artist talks, offering deeper insight into their work and creative process. During each talk, artists present a single body of work projected on screen, bringing their images to life through personal reflections on process, ideas, and stories. Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center is inviting the community to come kick off the holiday season and shop local vendors at the Annual Holiday Bazaar. The Holiday Bazaar will take place on Saturday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Olivewood Gardens and will feature more than 40 local vendors and Kitchenista entrepreneurs, and food for purchase prepared by our High School Culinary Program Interns. The free community event is an opportunity to discover handmade goods, holiday gifts, and treats. All proceeds will support the growth of locally owned small businesses. A variety of unique, locally made products will be available for purchase, including handmade scented soaps, candles, salsa macha, local honey, sourdough bread, tamales, jewelry, handbags, knitted wear, and much more. Kitchenista entrepreneurs will be selling artisanal breads, handcrafted jewelry, and Mexican artisan goods. A variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals will be available for purchase to support Olivewood’s programs. Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center promotes health equity, food access, and community building. Proceeds from the Holiday Bazaar will help Olivewood continue to provide resources, programming, and nutritious food access to the community it serves. The Comic-Con Art Show, Located at the Manchester Hyatt, in Grand Hall CD is open to the public—you do not need a badge to come in and enjoy or purchase artwork. However, everyone entering the Art Show is expected to comply with all terms and conditions expected of our attendees. You’ll see numerous original drawings, paintings, sculptures, pieces of jewelry, and more “unusual” items, all created and displayed by professional and amateur artists. In 2024, more than 900 items were sold by the 116 artists exhibiting in the Comic-Con Art Show, and 20% of those art show sales were to the un-badged general public! If you want to add something to your collection, many of the pieces are offered for purchase by Silent Auction* or Quick Sale. Bidder numbers and Art Show information can be obtained from the administration table inside the Art Show. You must be 18 or older and have legal identification to purchase artwork, and payments may be made with cash or a credit card. The Art Show also displays the nominated books and comics for this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. Come and see the best new works of the year! For your convenience, the Art Show is open one hour after the Exhibit Hall closes on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday to make it easier to bid on or pick up your art.
