Participants are invited to join us at this weekend-long festival to set mindful intentions, tap into our creative expression, and create soulcare rituals that support our holistic well-being as we bring in the summer solstice. Our festival will feature BIPOC artists, wellness advocates, and healers who inspire the work we do here at Soultry Sisters. The will lead arts and wellness workshops centered around creative expression, collective healing, and mindful movement. "Love in Exile" is a new project offered by Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, and Shahzad Ismaily based on their recently released recording by the same name. This project creates lush, haunting collaborative soundscapes of meditation and yearning, described by Aftab as “about self-exile, and the search for freedom and identity, and finding it through love and music.” Aftab is a semi-classical, minimalist composer, songwriter, and singer. She was recently awarded the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance and is the first ever Pakistani artist to receive a Grammy Award. Iyer is one of the leading music-makers of his generation. His honors include a MacArthur Fellowship, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a United States Artist Fellowship, a Grammy nomination, and the Alpert Award in the Arts. Ismaily is a multi-instrumentalist and composer. Join American Me Comedy, Wednesday Feb. 21, 2024 @ 8 p.m., at the historic La Jolla Comedy Store for an evening of laughs to benefit the local nonprofit organization: Amazing Strays Rescue. Von Huben are bringing together a hilarious line-up of comics including: Host Jason Rogers, Josh Nasar, Steven Briggs, Kristi McHugh, Dave Ppl and San Diego’s own, Louie Centanni. It's going to be a fun night of comedy for a cause in support of Amazing Strays Rescue. The unique objects displayed at the niche of Mingei International Museum reflect the creative expressions of seven international female artists selected by Persian Place, from Feb. 1, 2024 to May 31, 2024. Seven international female artists were invited to create work inspired by the Shahnameh, a 10th and 11th-century epic poem by Persian poet Abul Qasem Ferdowsi. The Shahnameh narrates the heroic tales of Persian kings and also acknowledges the pivotal role of Iranian women as influential nurturers and warriors in their communities. The showcased artists include Shirin Aghdaie, Sasha Furlan, Melissa Meier, Yasaman Mostajeran, Marty Ornish, Sara Soleimani Qashqai, and Soroor Sharifi. The 15th annual FREE La Jolla Art & Wine Festival (LJAWF) returns to the coastal town of La Jolla from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023. With a spectacular coastline and picturesque views, La Jolla is the perfect setting for this weekend of creative celebration. Visitors can expect prestigious art, regional and international wines, craft beer and spirits, a high-end silent auction, all-star live entertainment and music, a gourmet food court, over ten pet rescue stations, as well as interactive, family-friendly fun! The La Jolla Art & Wine Festival features more than 160 hand-selected juried artists from across the U.S. and Mexico. Artists from all backgrounds will display exquisite creations in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, jewelry design, fine glass, ceramics, woodwork, mixed media, and photography. But this weekend is not just for the art connoisseur—the LJAWF is also where wine enthusiasts, craft beer and spirit lovers unite. Festival visitors who are twenty-one and older can sample delectable wines from Valle De Guadalupe, California, Italy, and France, and taste a wide variety of internationally renowned brews and spirits by several local San Diego craft breweries and distilleries in the Wine & Beer Garden. Located in the center of the festival, it boasts more than 13,000 square feet with ample seating, shade, and room to dance! This year’s Wine & Beer Garden is a ticketed event and runs from Noon-6 p.m. with last pour at 5:30 p.m. The Geppetto’s Family Art Center is a FREE family area that features fun, hands-on crafts and interactive art, as well as science experiments, 3-D printing, and an opportunity to contribute to a public space art project. All profits raised benefit underfunded programs such as art, music, science, physical education, technology, and on-site medical care at La Jolla’s five public schools. Since its inception, the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival has donated more than $1,000,000 to these schools for the educational benefit of more than 4,000 children.
