McPherson began painting in 1970, moving from abstract in his early work at Indiana University to his career commitment to landscape impressionism, influenced by Pissarro, McPherson paints exclusively in oils and has painted continuously up to the present. McPherson estimates a career total of 1500+ paintings and he has followers all over San Diego County and throughout California. John Cornfield has been drawing and painting for over 20 years, including with many of the top plein air artists in the country. Inspired by an older generation of Southwest and California Impressionists, Cornfield's landscapes follow in their unique use of color and form. Cornfield’s paintings are found in private and public collections throughout southern California. A graduate of UCSD, Cornfield has many local San Diego followers. Many of his collectors say that his paintings evoke a sense of “vintage California”. Cornfield paints exclusively in acrylics.
