Zo is 34 years old and has been a performing guitarist for 12 years. He has been teaching people how to play and understand the guitar/piano for four years. Born in London, he was raised in North County, San Diego, where he currently resides. He is a graduate of CSULB with a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance, and during his time there he studied Blues, Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Classical, and Irish Folk Music. While at CSULB he joined an Irish Folk Band, and started his own Blues band along with vocalist Christina Wilson. He’s studied under many influential guitarists across the country. In Los Angeles, Ron Eschete and Mike Higgins. In New York, Peter Mazza, Gilad Hekselman, and Michael Valeanu. Finally, in San Diego he studied with Bob Boss, Lorraine Castellanos, Fred Kunze. These experiences have prepared him for large ensembles, quintets, quartets, trios, duos, and solo guitar performances in a variety of styles. Join us for an evening of art & wine! What does art have to tell us about wine and food pairing? Still life paintings often show wine-- red, white, and sparkling -- with items of food that range from cheese and fruit to fish and meat. Paintings of meals --from humble peasants' dinners to opulent feasts of the aristocracy -- show tables where wine and food share space. Are these paintings guides to the way wines and foods were paired in the time of the Masters? Or did aesthetics dictate the color of the wines and the textures and shapes of the food? In this illustrated talk, Rod Phillips will tease wine and food connections from these works of art and draw parallels to the way today's sommeliers pair wine and food. He is the author of many books and articles on the history of wine, including "Wine: A Social and Cultural History of the Drink that Changed our Lives" (paperback, 2018), "French Wine: A History" (paperback, 2020), and "Alcohol: A History" (paperback, 2019). 2023 Mother’s Day Weekend Art, Garden & Studio Tour Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The San Dieguito Art Guild, a non-profit group, hosts their 26th annual Mother’s Day Weekend Art, Garden & Studio Tour. This is a self-guided, driving tour on Saturday and Sunday, Mother’s Day weekend, May 13 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are good for both days and homes may be re-visited. Take your mom or best friends on a leisurely tour of the 8 North San Diego County homes where you can peruse more than 30 unique exhibits of locally made art, and relax in each unique coastal or inland garden. Artists from the San Dieguito Art Guild will be positioned in the gardens — showing and selling their paintings, ceramics, glass, gourd art, fiber arts, photography, jewelry, and much more. Free refreshments will be served at every stop. The tour includes an eclectic group of homes, gardens, and art studios. The tour will include a visit to the art studio of a watercolor artist/instructor, a stained-glass gate salvaged from a nearby property that was being torn down, and outdoor kitchen, a succulent maze, a large metal sculpture by Ricardo Breceda, vegetable garden beds, an extensive vineyard, and a variety of native and drought resistant plantings.. This two-day event is the major fund-raiser of the year for the San Dieguito Art Guild. Without funds from this tour the Guild would operate at a loss. Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased at the Off Track Gallery (937 South Coast Highway 101, Suite C-103, Encinitas), at OffTrackGallery.com, or at each home both days of the tour. Ticket sales begin in early April. Children 17 and under are free. This is a favorite tour of many San Diegans — many of whom take this tour year after year. From the organizers: Betsy Konrad, the acclaimed San Diego abstract artist whose work has been featured in in New York galleries, has a new show next month in La Jolla. The show is scheduled for May 12, and will be hosted at Dunia’s Hair Lounge, 1110 Torrey Pines Road, Suite E, in La Jolla. The show, which runs from 6-10 p.m., is free to the public. The renowned French Gourmet of Pacific Beach will cater the event with complimentary food, along with wine and beverages. Konrad is a former foreign policy and national security expert and consultant whose work included time in the White House. She retired due to medical conditions, then turned her focus to the arts. She has since found her passion for painting and became a full-time abstract artist who has quickly found critical and commercial success. “It’s only as the paint and my brush flow that I find the direction I’m heading -- which goes with my wanderlust personality,” Konrad said. “I’ve traveled a lot and have found that my best adventures and experiences were when I was ‘lost or didn’t have a plan.’ ”
