  • For 50 years Ballet Hispánico has been the leading voice, intersecting artistic excellence and advocacy, and is now the largest Latinx cultural organization in the United States and one of America’s Cultural Treasures. With its bold and eclectic brand of contemporary dance, Ballet Hispánico has brought its exemplary artistry and passion for dance to more than three million people in 11 countries on three continents. The iconic New York City-based company will perform a trio of works from its celebrated repertoire: Vicente Nebrada’s "Arabesque" is an elegant suite of dances set to the music of Spanish composer, Enrique Granados. The piece is a lush contemporary ballet rooted in Spanish influences and traces of flamenco. In "Tiburones," choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa addresses the discrimination and stereotypes placed upon Latinx culture and the power the media has in portraying these themes by diminishing the voices of Latinx artists. "18+1" celebrates Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s 19 years as a choreographer. In a display of subtle humor and electric choreography, the movement merges with the playful rhythms found in Pérez Prado’s mambo music.
