Distinction Gallery and ArtHatch is pleased to announce our 12th Annual Art-A-Thon, a marathon of artistic creation to benefit the non-profit art center’s teen program. 16 artists from San Diego County will join together to create artwork for 24 straight hours. Completed artworks will be auctioned off starting at $100. Proceeds from art sales will be divided between the artists and ArtHatch to help support the centers free art education program for local teens. Participating artists this year are Kelly Vivanco and Peter Hillier, Victor Roman, Brady Willmott, Dinah Martin, Eusebio Travis Sevilla, Evgola, Jennifer Anichowski, Jennifer Barber, Lindy Ivey, Martita, Megan Darrough, Nicole Mendez Waszak, Olena Bugrimenko, Olga Tenyakova, and SonyArletta. The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, January 14, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The bidding will take place from January 12 at 2 p.m. to January 28 at 2 p.m. pst.

Classical Academy High School Presents "Guys and Dolls! The Broadway Musical" at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido from March 30 - April 2, 2023. Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, "Guys and Dolls" is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler, Nathan Detroit, tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, and Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown, as a result. Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy since it opened in 1950, "Guys and Dolls" takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. Ana Aranda is the keynote speaker for the National Center for the Study of Children’s Literature Spring lecture. Join us on Thursday, March 2 at 2 p.m. in the University Library Leon Williams Room (LL430). Aranda will read from her newest book, “Our Day of the Dead”, and answer audience questions. The event is free and open to everyone. Aranda is a children’s book creator, illustrator, muralist and art instructor. Her work has been featured in galleries and museums in the United States and around the world. Her illustrations can be found in picture books including: “The Chupacabra Ate the Candelabra”; “Our Celebración!”; “Moth & Butterfly: Ta Da!”; and “How to Make a Memory”. “Our Day of the Dead” marks her debut as an author/illustrator. Aranda was born and raised in Mexico City, where she studied design. She completed her undergraduate studies in illustration at l’École de l’Image d’Épinal in France and then obtained her MFA in Illustration in San Francisco at the Academy of Art University. Her biggest inspirations are her childhood memories, the vibrant colors of Mexico, and music.
