From ArtPower: Celebrated jazz trumpeter and film composer Terence Blanchard pays homage to legendary saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter, the inspiration that has influenced Blanchard’s music and storytelling. Featuring the acclaimed trumpeter with The E-Collective and the Turtle Island Quartet, they will present pieces written by Shorter as well as original compositions by Blanchard and members of his band—resulting in “a lush and dramatic soundscape that calls to mind Blanchard’s career as a successful film composer” (New Yorker). “I’m proud to have a chance to visit some of the music that has shaped my musical identity,” says Blanchard. “Pairing Wayne Shorter’s music with original works from The E-Collective along with the sonic colors of The Turtle Island Quartet has been an amazing experience. Tales of O’side is an opportunity for those who have been traditionally underrepresented in mainstage performances, such as LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, and those who experience mental health struggles, to share their own work and perspectives. Our goal is to build a literary and theater arts community fostering interactions between artists and audiences to discuss their works. Pay what you can!

Trinity Theatre Company continues their 11th Grown Up Stage (GUS) season under the guidance of Artistic Director, Sean Boyd with their first New Works Festival. The New Works Festival celebrates the works of 10 Emerging New Playwrights from across the county. TTC received 400 submissions from across the country. From those they chose 25 finalists and ultimately 10 new plays that are produced as staged readings using local talent from San Diego’s vibrant arts community.
