Little Fish Comic Book Studio: Fostering awareness and education for the comic arts As a nonprofit educational corporation serving the San Diego region, Little Fish Comic Book Studio is dedicated to developing an appreciation of the comic art form through classes and camps directed to students of all ages and creeds, while through community partnerships and local events making an impact on the education of the public at large. Our goals are to educate students using the standards of a traditional art school and the comic book industry with the passion and the openness of a relaxed studio environment. Little Fish aims to give each student, regardless of their prior educational backgrounds, age or identity, a realistic, working understanding of what it takes to be a professional comic creator, all while giving them the catered instruction designed to better them as individual artists at a pace that works best for them. This series is part of One Book, One San Diego program: One Book, One San Diego is our region's premier literary program, presented in partnership between KPBS and over 80 public libraries, service organizations and educational institutions. Now in its 16th year, the purpose is to bring our community closer together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. From the organizers: The Rosin Box Project (TRBP), San Diego’s premier contemporary ballet company, is opening their 2023 Season: Impulse with Empower. A trailblazing female-led program coinciding with Women’s History Month, featuring three new works choreographed by Resident Artists Lauren Flower, Bethany Green, and Carly Topazio, to be presented at The Light Box Theater in Liberty Station. Performances are Thursday, March 23 through Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. Also, a special immersive-performance-style event featuring Bethany Green's new work will be presented on Monday, March 27 at 7:30pm. There will also be a Virtual Stream of the full program on March 25 at 7 p.m. (PST). TRBP thrives on expanding the definition of what dance is—who it’s made for and by—while presenting world-class dancers and choreography in an unfiltered and authentic space. Empower spotlights female choreographers that are evolving the art form with their own unique artistic voices. Receptions will follow the March 23 and 24 performances, giving attendees the opportunity to meet and mingle with the company artists, and an Artist Talk-Back (Q&A) will follow the March 25 performance, allowing the choreographers to speak about their work in more detail. In its inception, IJsbrand De Wilde & Gert Beazar focussed mainly on playing DJ sets and creating music in which they loved colliding worlds. Only a few years later they hooked up with Maxim Helincks & Pieter De Meester to expand their DJ activities to a performing band and continued to try and find an unbeaten path in electronic music. This culminated in their delicately acoustic, organic and cinematic approach to electronic music.
