DMICS 2023 will conclude with a night of opera and a celebration of the human voice. One of the unique aspects of DMICS is our opera workshop program, in which composers are invited to work with a collection of some of Southern California's top vocal artists to develop and present new operatic works together. This season we will hear the continuation of Polina Nazaykinskaya's major opera-in-progress, "Tear Down This Wall," a comedic scene from Jordan Kuspa's "The Importance of Being Earnest," and several vocal works by composers with local ties to San Diego: Texu Kim, Michael Remson, and Joseph Sowa. This is a rare opportunity to hear new works in their infancy, as our composer/performer teams work to hone their creative vision together and create new and powerful operas destined for grand stages in the future.
