  • Six performers, two couples, one story. Ballet and opera meet in Cinballera Entertainment’s inaugural performance, “Stolen Love: A Chamber Ballopera!” Sisters Tiffany and Rebekah Brannan bring to life the music of 20th century composer Gian Carlo Menotti in his 1939 comic opera, “The Old Maid and the Thief,” and a ballet prequel of their own creation, “Stella and Starbuck,” which sets original choreography to his first and only piano concerto. Follow the captivating story spanning two works, as Depression-era sisters Laetitia and Stella each meet and fall in love with a handsome stranger who may be hiding an unscrupulous past! This evening of dancing, singing, drama, and romance will steal your heart! Cinballera presents exciting programs which combine classical singing, dancing, and cinema, showcasing dynamic performers from throughout Southern California at unique venues across the state! • A deep discussion with organizer and revolutionary Yusef Bunchy Shakur on Black community politics and we hear from "Dilla Time" author Dan Charnas.
  • Max Roemer presents “Beggars of Bliss, Icons of Loss”, new sculptures, paintings and drawings that speak to the viewer as inner figures: archetypes, genies, angels, fools, and fairy tale figures. The sculptures are “Beggars of Bliss”, large raw figures brought to life from found shapes and tree waste, connecting the pieces to the environment from which they grow, and giving expression to the bare experience of both loss and bliss. The paintings and drawings are “Icons of Loss” that echo the sculptures. They combine figures and words, one-word messages and witticism, in a primitive, playful style. “My art is pure play”, says Roemer, “nothing less.” All sales and proceeds will benefit ArtReach, a nonprofit providing arts education to more than 6000 students at Title 1 schools in San Diego County.
