The Shalimar Flute Quartet will perform a variety of musical selections from jazz to light classical at the Del Mar Library, 1309 Camino Del Mar, on Saturday, July 8 at 1 p.m. Music highlights include Shenandoah, Blue Skies, Cuban Dances, and Anitra’s Dance from Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, among others. The Shalimar Flute Quartet is a group of talented flutists and friends who enjoy playing a wide variety of music written for various combinations of C flute, piccolo, alto and bass flute. The festival moved permanently to the San Diego Surf Sports Park last year and has proved to be extremely successful. Guests and artists love its easy freeway access and ample convenient parking. Residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy this prestigious juried festival, now in its 36th year. This age 21 and up event showcases stunning works of painting, sculpture, photography, glass, jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and mixed media from more than 150 world renowned artists. Ticket sales (starting at $13), a silent auction and wine and beer sales all benefit local adaptive sports programs supporting thousands of San Diegans with disabilities. The San Diego Festival of the Arts Foundation, Inc., through this primary fundraiser, has raised more than $2.7 million for this cause since 1987.
