  • What happens when the presence of silence allows for the unspoken to be heard? Carol Stein and Lissa Hunter have been fellow artists and friends for nearly 30 years. For the past ten years or so they have shared what they call Studio Days, each going to the other’s Maine-based studio, working in near silence for the day or several days in a row. Being side by side in the same space has become an integral part of each of their practices. Neither knows how her work has been influenced by the other. The arc of each artist’s practice has been continuous and integrated, each new work coming from the previous. There aren’t any seismic shifts or grand leaps that have come directly from time together. But each is certain that her work would be different and, they suspect, not so rich if they had not had these times together, these quiet connections. Opening Reception: Sunday, March 19, 2-5 p.m. Exhibition: March 19-May 7 2633 State Street, Carlsbad Village info@phesgallery.com /760-696-3022 Thursday - Saturday from 2-7 p.m. and by appointment PHES Gallery on Facebook / Instagram
