We reopen with the special exhibition Niki de Saint Halle in the 1960𝘴, the first exhibition to survey the experimental work of the French-American artist during this pivotal decade, from the artist’s Tirr, or “shooting paintings,” to the exuberant sculptures of women she called Nanas.   • The New Children’s Museum commissioned two artists on staff, Marcus Deridder and Taylor McCabe, to paint a large-scale and interactive mural. The World of Les Mor and Mor no Mor mural will be unveiled for visitors to experience on Wednesday, August 17. The World of Les Mor and Mor no Mor is an interactive mural that spans from the Museum’s main level to the upper level. The mural depicts two worlds: Les Mor on the upper level with friendly feathered fellows, and Mor no Mor on the main level with mischievous cave dwelling creatures. Travel between the two worlds through the magical elevator portal and help the citizens of each world stay in touch by passing on their mail! The Hutchins Consort plays on the eight scaled violins of the violin octet designed and built by famed luthier Dr. Carleen Hutchins. The instruments are the first successful attempt to create an acoustically balanced set of instruments that can sound truly like violins across the entire range of written music. With instruments ranging from the tiny treble violin, tuned one octave above the standard violin, to the gigantic large bass violin, tuned one octave lower than a 'cello, the Hutchins Consort produces an astonishing palette of sounds.
