  • With a goal of providing important and useful information on special education law and practice, the University of San Diego School of Law offers its Special Education Law and Advocacy Series (SELAS). This specialized program not only educates participants about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other related laws and includes an in-depth look at Regional Center services, it also offers practical tips for special education advocacy. Past participants have included parents of children with disabilities, professionals working in related fields, school district staff, related services providers (such as speech and language pathologists), attorneys, and others. The seminars are taught by experienced special education attorneys as well as a licensed clinical psychologist. No textbook is required and each seminar includes electronic handouts. Enrollment is flexible—participants may register for as many or as few seminars as they like to match their professional or personal goals. Participants who complete the entire series—with their cameras on for each session—are eligible to receive a Certificate of Completion from the University of San Diego School of Law. Viewing recordings alone does not qualify for certification. Although participants may spread the seminars across terms, all sessions must be completed within three years. • Celebrate Chinatown as a vibrant community where Chinese art and performance continue to thrive in America, from historic opera theaters to the lively lion dances of Lunar New Year. Through these creative expressions, Chinatown has forged a distinctive identity that is both artistically rich and deeply connected to Chinese and American cultures. In this conversation, Nancy Yunhwa Rao, a distinguished professor of music at Rutgers University, will trace the fascinating history of Chinese opera theaters in North America, where stories of loyalty and passion captivated audiences across cultures since their beginnings in the mid-19th century. • Join via zoom https://sdsu.zoom.us/j/82179705659 This past year has made one thing painfully clear: our youth and women are being deeply influenced—by misinformation, social media algorithms, fake news, AI-generated content, profit-driven podcasters that prioritize money over truth and public well-being. Many young voters and women, especially those in the beauty and wellness industries, are not being given safe, neutral, facts-based education that clearly explains what policies, candidates, and elections actually mean for their lives, their bodies, their families, and their children. Instead, they are being emotionally pulled by viral clips, fear-based messaging, and personalities who benefit financially from confusion and division. I know there are events and debates in young college community but what about the trade school folk. ESPECIALLY IN BEAUTY AND WELLNESS. WE URGENTLY NEED TO empower this large industry on what the reality is of their vote. We urgently need support to build workshops, educational apps, websites, and live community events designed specifically for youth and women—spaces that are free from political manipulation, social media pressure, and financial agendas. These programs would focus on: • Understanding how misinformation and AI influence beliefs • Clear, accessible explanations of policies and real-world consequences FAST AND EASY AND SIMPLE • How voting decisions affect women, children, education, healthcare, and economic stability • Teaching people how to research facts safely and informed w real facts Women in the beauty and wellness industries, in particular, hold enormous influence in their communities. Many are mothers, mentors, and business owners—yet they are rarely given tools to understand how elections directly impact their professions, their autonomy, and the futures of the families they serveIf we do not intervene now, we risk raising generations who believe voting is a popularity contest rather than a responsibility with lifelong consequences.
