  • San Diego FC (SDFC) 2024 Chrome Ball Tour presented by Trust & Will is headed to the city of Chula Vista for the fifth and largest stop of the tour on Saturday, May 4. The Chrome Ball Tour in Chula Vista will kick off with a Chula Vista first responders tournament, featuring the Chula Vista Fire Department and players from the Chula Vista Police Department. The event will also feature a 3v3 street soccer tournament, a local car show, a Lucha Libre performance with Masked Republic, a San Diego FC Colors of the Community Fashion Show featuring a musical performance by Chula Vista natives Rossi Rock and Sebby OG, and musical acts featuring South Bay native DJ Beto Perez, world-renowned cumbia band Vilma Diaz y La Sonora, and San Diego native Lil Rob. Additionally, the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista will have a beer garden and a kids area that will include face painting, inflatables and more. The event is free to the public and will run from Noon to 10 p.m. PT. The artwork for the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista was created by local Chula Vista artists Josue Baltezar, Chikle! And Paola ‘Panca’ Villaseñor.   • Valley Arts Festival (VAF) is an annual celebration of Oceanside and its first peoples, today known as the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, one of the seven tribes of the Luiseño nation. The Luiseño are an indigenous people of California who inhabited the coastal area of Southern California. This year’s free family-friendly festival, themed “Kíicha Nights, Coyote Dreams© “, expands upon the success of the last three years, and will feature even more activities and vendors. VAF is made possible in part by Prebys Foundation and Title Sponsorship by Visit Oceanside. A Memorial Day Flag Ceremony will take place daily to honor fallen heroes of the United States Armed Forces at 10 a.m. The park will also feature live musical performances by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band at Skytower Lawn stage. From Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27, SeaWorld San Diego will honor the military with a firework spectacular salute 10 minutes prior to the park’s closure.   • Anomaly! Songwriter! Keyboard genius! Born the mysterious son of two professional artists Anthony Smith knows no creative limits. He has mastered the craft of piano key solos and melodies. From jazz to crunk, Mr. Smith is the universal funk. His Herbie Hancock chops and Roy Ayers flair make him a late night favorite everywhere. Anthony holds a degree in Music from San Diego State University and is equally as comfortable in the boardroom as he is performing and producing music. Mr. Smith is currently the head of A&R for New Century Soul Records. Anthony Smith has been performing, arranging, composing and producing music professionally for 25 years. As a pianist, keyboardist and vibraphonist, he has worked with many well-known artists in the world of jazz, and also pop, rock and a variety of other genres. In addition to working as a sideman in a large number of both local and touring groups, Anthony has led many of his own bands, performing extensively throughout the U.S., and also abroad on occasion. Anthony is also a prolific composer and writer, having written and produced numerous albums, screenplays, stage plays, and a 700-page memoir titled The Lizard Stays in the Cage, published in 2013. His latest work is a series of conversation with today’s living jazz vibraphonists, titled Masters of the Vibes, and published by Marimba Productions, Inc. He served for years on the jazz faculty at San Diego State University, where he earned a Masters Degree in 2010, and was the regular keyboardist for The Mighty Untouchables, one of San Diego’s premier variety pop/rock acts.
