Join the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation as they trace the area's evolution—from its Wild West beginnings and waterfront vice to its Victorian revival and present-day status as a National Historic District. Discover the stories behind the brick sidewalks, gas lamps, and preserved buildings that now shape one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods. The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation (GQHF) is dedicated to preserving the architecture, culture and history of the Gaslamp Quarter, a 16 ½-block area designated as an historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979. Through museum exhibits, tours, festivals and educational programs for children and adults, the GQHF opens a window to the past by depicting the historical development of downtown San Diego since 1850. The Foundation operates from the oldest standing residence in the Gaslamp Quarter, the Davis-Horton House Museum, a repository of artifacts, photos and archives that we preserve for residents and visitors from around the world to enjoy. Founded in 1981 as a nonprofit corporation and recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt entity, the Foundation is led by an active Board of Directors that provides vision and leadership, sets policy and oversees the organization’s financial health. After almost a decade of planning the Navy SEAL Museum San Diego opens its doors to the public Saturday.

Spike Lee's latest collaboration with Denzel Washington — their first in nearly 20 years — reimagines a 1963 story about a wealthy businessman. In this version, Washington plays a music executive and Jeffrey Wright plays his chauffeur.

The sculptures are made from a special glass called dalle de verre that produces deeper color effects when illuminated by the sun.

This dynamic space offers hands-on art workshops, artist-led activities, and creative experiences for all ages—from toddlers to teens to adults. It’s also available for private event rentals, making it the perfect spot for group events and community gatherings. Join us for a special celebration, the grand opening of "Artopia: NCM Creative Studios " on April 12, 2025 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. This special event will take place during normal Museum hours and will feature: ● 9:30 a.m. – A celebratory ribbon cutting to officially open Artopia: NCM Creative Studios ● A short program with speakers, including Museum leadership, partners, and honored guests ● Drop-in art-making stations featuring drawing, fiber arts, ceramics and sculpting, toddler-friendly sensory activities and more where kids and visitors of all ages can get a taste of what is to come in future workshops ● Access to explore "Artopia: NCM Creative Studios" as part of their Museum visit. The Old Globe invites friends and families from San Diego and beyond to celebrate the theatre’s longest resident playwright, William Shakespeare, with the Globe’s annual AXIS Event Happy Birthday, Mr. Shakespeare! on Saturday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Globe’s outdoor Copley Plaza in Balboa Park. The Bard’s birthday—his 461st!—is an exciting and festive occasion to celebrate his countless contributions to arts and culture around the world. The festivities will be hosted by our very own Arts Engagement Producer Eric Hagen and Natasha Harris and will include Shakespearean monologues and scenes performed by M.F.A. students from The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program, a fight choreography demonstration and workshop led by Ben Cole, a curated vinyl DJ set from Stevie Ortega accompanied with live instrumentals, an interactive performance and tap dance workshop by DrumatiX, and a crafts station for kids of all ages to enjoy. Plus, all attendees are invited to join in the “Happy Birthday” sing-along celebration with cupcakes. This event is free and open to everyone who wishes to attend.
