Dark Christmas provides a novel approach to holiday festivities by echoing the ages old traditions of mid-European folklore and celebration of winter. It consists of a holiday market that showcases unique and offbeat vendors in downtown Vista and features a Krampus Run. The Backfence Society, Twisted Heart Puppetworks and the Vista Art Foundation collaborate to create this market inspired by the European Kristkindl Markets of old Europe, offering a decidedly different twist on the typical Christmas events. Expect to see Dark Christmas art, Krampus inspired puppetry, Tarot and Rune readers, delicious food and spiced cider and a good old fashioned Bavarian Krampus and Winter Spirits procession to end the evening. Stepwise is a high-energy Celtic folk group featuring the swift rhythmic guitar playing of "DADGAD"-specialist Liam Lewis, the articulate hand percussion of All-Ireland champion bones and bodhran player James Yoshizawa, and the smooth ornamented fiddling of Olivia Breidenthal. The three Los Angeles natives have built a following playing festivals, concerts, and contradances up and down the west coast.
