  • Jean Guerrero is a former KPBS reporter with extensive experience covering Latin America. Her KPBS reporting focused on family separations at the border, Trump's wall, deportations, and migrant caravan. Her work was recognized by the San Diego Press Club, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - Pacific Southwest Chapter, and the Society for Professional Journalists, including "Best Body Of Work" in 2018.

    She started her career at the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires in Mexico City as a foreign correspondent. She won the PEN/FUSION Emerging Writers Prize in 2016. Her book "Crux: A Cross-Border Memoir" was published in 2018 by One World (Random House).

    Jean holds a B.A. in journalism and a minor in neuroscience from the University of Southern California. She also has an MFA degree in creative nonfiction from Goucher College.
  • Union Hall Gallery Presents “Touchpoints with Artists: Darby Haily, Alex Parrasch, Andie Ryan Round, Emma Limtiaco, John Dewey, Sara Ajami, Sarah Stevenson February 7, 2025 - March 21, 2025 Opening Reception: Friday, February 7, 2025 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. During the opening reception, several of the artists will speak about their personal practice and the insights gained from creating collaborative work. The exhibition ’Touchpoints’, highlights the transformative potential of collaborative art making as explored through the student-led seminar "DISCO", created and facilitated by MFA candidate Darby Simmons at Claremont Graduate University. In this seminar, artists initiated individual artworks and passed them to fellow participants, with each piece evolving through the contributions of the group. The result is a dynamic collection of works embodying shared creative processes, innovation, and collective imagination. To complement these collaborative pieces, the exhibition will also feature one individual work from each artist, providing insight into their personal practices and sparking dialogue on the interplay between individual and collective creation.   • Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 The Cal Poly Pomona Piano Ensemble is directed by GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist Nadia Shpachenko, who often performs with the group. The Piano Ensemble performs repertoire for piano 4-hands, duo-piano and for 3-20 keyboard players on multiple instruments, which include pianos, toy pianos, and harpsichords. The Collaborative Piano Ensemble also collaborates with singers and instrumentalists. In addition to performing repertoire from the classical canon, the group’s mission is to program and promote newly-written piano ensemble repertoire and to collaborate with contemporary composers. Most recently the Cal Poly Pomona Piano Ensemble worked with composers Zoltan Almashi, William Alves, Armando Bayolo, Madelyn Byrne, Nimrod Borenstein, Martin Bresnick, Tom Flaherty, Dai Fujikura, Christopher Jessup, Thomas Kotcheff, James Matheson, Evgeni Orkin, Tristan Perich, John Proulx, Samara Rice, Michael Roth, Jonathan Russell, Isaac Schankler, Adam Schoenberg, William Susman, Alex Weiser, Jack Van Zandt, and others. They recently toured many newly-written works in Boston, Florida, New York and California, and made many recordings, often in collaboration with professional guest artists.
