  • Based on Helen Thorpe's bestselling book, this documentary-style play follows four Latina teenage girls in Denver - two of who are documented and two who are not - through young adulthood. Their close-knit friendships begin to unravel when immigration status dictates the girls' opportunities, or lack thereof. When a political firestorm arises, each girl's future becomes increasingly complicated. Just Like Us poses difficult yet essential questions about what makes us American.   • Offering a message of hope that spans centuries, musical styles and faith traditions, the Village Church presents a free Spring Choral Concert on Sunday, April 13th at 4 p.m. Songs of Hope features internationally recognized organist Nathaniel Gumbs, director of chapel music at Yale University. He will be joined by the Village Community Chorale, several soloists and professional musicians. The performance includes the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, “The Chariot Jubilee” by R. Nathaniel Dett, “Hear My Prayer” by Felix Mendelssohn, and “Song of Hope” by Florence Price. This free concert will be presented in the church sanctuary at 6225 Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe. Upon hearing his story, they embark on a journey to shed light on the issue. "Bring Them Home" is a powerful, award-winning documentary exploring the harrowing issue of deported veterans—a group who have honorably served yet find themselves exiled by the very nation they defended.   • The Maritime Museum of San Diego is proud to announce the International Guild of Knot Tyers North American Chapter will bring the Art and Craft of Knot Tying to visitors and members of the Maritime Museum of San Diego one day only Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. A Registered Educational Charity, the International Guild of Knot Tyers was founded, with twenty-five members, in April 1982, as an association of folks with interests in knots and knotting techniques of all kinds. In succeeding years, the Guild has grown beyond all expectations and now has over one thousand members worldwide. According to Raymond Ashley, Ph.D., K.C.I., President/CEO of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, “We are excited to share with our community the enormous talent of this special group of artisans enthusiastic about their knot-related work and eager to teach visitors the art of ropemaking and knot tying.” The purpose of IGKT NA is to promote the art, craft, and science of knotting, its study and practice, and to facilitate communications among all North American members and between the IGKT-NA and IGKT.
