Since 2022, Curebound’s signature benefit concert series has raised more than $8.5 million to support innovative cancer research. Curebound announced that legendary music artist, humanitarian, and global superstar, Elton John will headline the 2025 Concert for Cures on Friday, May 9, at Petco Park to raise awareness and funds for cutting-edge cancer research. Since its launch in 2022, Concert for Cures has raised more than $8.5 million to support early-phase adult and pediatric cancer research among Southern California’s top research institutions. Previous headliners include Alicia Keys with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and Ed Sheeran performing to sold-out crowds at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. This year, Concert for Cures expands to Petco Park for an extraordinary night of music, hope, and accelerated impact in the fight against cancer. To date, Curebound has invested over $45 million in collaborative research grants. One of the top-selling solo artists of all time with more than 300 million records worldwide, Elton John has been honoured with six GRAMMYs, a Tony, two Oscars, induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a Kennedy Center Honor, Legend of Live Award, and a knighthood from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for “services to music and charitable services”. In January 2024, Elton John joined Hollywood’s elite group of EGOT winners after securing an EMMY Award for his historic Disney+ live concert special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. Most recently, Elton and GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for "Never Too Late," featured in his documentary "Elton John: Never Too Late," now streaming on Disney+. Six of San Diego’s most talented AAPI chefs (Asian Americans and Pacific Islander) will create signature baked goods for the Friendly Feast AAPI Chefs Bake Sale, taking place at Cowboy Star on Sunday, November 17. Guests can pre-order a curated box with six unique items, including an ube coconut crumb doughnut, Valrhona chocolate cannelé, “Flandan tart”, and more. Boxes are priced at $45 each. On Friday November 22, Encinitas Animal Hospital will be hosting an official Grand Opening of their new location in the Little Oaks Shopping center on North El Camino in Encinitas. The festivities will begin promptly at 5 p.m. and run through 7 p.m. The public is welcome to join Medical Director, Dr. Sandy Scott Ullman in the celebration of the undertaking which will include an open house viewing of the hospital, welcome ceremony, celebratory toast, and a serving of light hors d'oeuvres. The hospital, originally owned by notable long-time Encinitas resident Dr. Dean Crowe, opened its doors in 1981. Over the years he gained great respect and trust from his many clients who appreciated his honest, stepwise approach to veterinary medicine and the treatment of their pets. In 2015, Dean retired and took great care in choosing the doctor to carry on his practice style and to take good care of his patients. Dr. Sandy Ullman was that person. She has built her practices in that same honest, stepwise fashion, that enables her to do far more for your pet in-house, and in many cases, without the need for referral to costly specialists. In 2024, the hospital was the recipient of the coveted Ranch & Coast Magazine’s ‘Best of’ award as a veterinary clinic as well as its second consecutive Nextdoor App’s ‘Neighborhood Favorites’ award. Additionally, Dr. Ullman secured a new larger location for the hospital and began undertaking the hospital’s expansion and forward trajectory. The new location’s doors opened for business on August 12, 2024. This new state-of-the-art facility is appointed with many advanced tools for in-house diagnostics and treatments, and has recently brought Encinitas resident Dr. Paula Dvorchak on as an Associate Veterinarian. The official grand opening of the hospital’s new location is a celebration of its continued momentum; four decades in the making. As many privately owned hospitals are being acquired by corporate veterinary companies, having a privately owned hospital survive the trend, and do so effectively, is a grand success. This is attributed to the hard work of Dr. Ullman and her team in securing the trust of their clients through the practice of good veterinary medicine. Based on Helen Thorpe's bestselling book, this documentary-style play follows four Latina teenage girls in Denver - two of who are documented and two who are not - through young adulthood. Their close-knit friendships begin to unravel when immigration status dictates the girls' opportunities, or lack thereof. When a political firestorm arises, each girl's future becomes increasingly complicated. Just Like Us poses difficult yet essential questions about what makes us American. The Maritime Museum of San Diego is proud to announce the International Guild of Knot Tyers North American Chapter will bring the Art and Craft of Knot Tying to visitors and members of the Maritime Museum of San Diego one day only Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. A Registered Educational Charity, the International Guild of Knot Tyers was founded, with twenty-five members, in April 1982, as an association of folks with interests in knots and knotting techniques of all kinds. In succeeding years, the Guild has grown beyond all expectations and now has over one thousand members worldwide.
