Tactical media artist xtine burrough, who presented in the Context Exhibit Series at Kellogg Library in 2018, returns to campus to discuss the new anthology of socially engaged artists’ writings that she co-edited. Book contributor and artist Kim Abeles will discuss her environmental and community-based artworks. Maria Garcia is an educator, writer, Chicana activist, retired elementary school principal, and historian. Her current book titled WE MADE SAN DIEGO tells various stories about Latinos that contributed to the history of San Diego. The book took five years to write and is an oral history of various aspects of the community. The book tells of community activists who have worked to affect social issues. Street food from many cultures around the world will be available for purchase, and your purchase supports sidewalk vendors as they battle unjust legislation that, until recently, made it virtually impossible to be a legally-recognized business.
