SAN DIEGO, CA - The San Diego River Artists’ Alliance (SDRAA) will exhibit work celebrating the San Diego River and its ecosystem in a exhibition titled “Ebb and Flow: Art Along the River” at the Point Loma Public Library October 3 - December 30, 2024. - 4 p.m. A portion of the sales will be donated to the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF). SDRAA is a collective of twenty-two visual and 3D artists from around San Diego County who hike and spend time along the San Diego River from its source in mountains near Julian to the ocean. The artists create artwork about the San Diego River and its ecosystem to celebrate its history, beauty and promise and to encourage the public to connect with the variety of experiences available along the river. The work includes acrylic, photography, mixed media, glass, watercolor, oil, color pencil, fiber arts, paper, ceramic, and polymer clay. Matthew Bowler is an award-winning journalist from San Diego. Bowler comes from a long line of San Diego journalists. Both his father and grandfather worked as journalists covering San Diego. He is also a third generation San Diego State University graduate, where he studied art with a specialty in painting and printmaking. Bowler moved to the South of France after graduating from SDSU. While there he participated in many art exhibitions. The newspaper “La Marseillaise” called his work “les oeuvres impossible” or “the impossible works.” After his year in Provence, Bowler returned to San Diego and began to work as a freelance photographer for newspapers and magazines. Some years later, he discovered his passion for reporting the news, for getting at the truth, for impacting lives. Bowler is privileged to have received many San Diego Press Club Awards along with two Emmy's.

The Crafter’s Retreat is an in-person event that gives makers of all levels the opportunity to disconnect from daily life, dive into the art of slow crafting, and handcraft beautiful projects from start to finish. As part of the Getty Foundation’s PST ART: Art and Science Collide, the Mandeville Art Gallery at UC San Diego presents "Helen and Newton Harrison: California Work," a retrospective exhibition about the work of husband-and-wife team of Helen Mayer and Newton Harrison, who were among the earliest and most notable ecological artists. Founding members of the Visual Arts Department at UC San Diego, Helen and Newton were local San Diego artists for nearly four decades, where they developed their pioneering concepts of Ecological Art.

James Lee Stanley is an American singer, songwriter, musician, composer, and producer whose six-decade career spans numerous artistic mediums. He is the true renaissance man, born in Philadelphia, and has been recording and performing since the age of fourteen, with 37 album releases and television and film credits to his name. James Lee is an outspoken proponent of good music, good government, and generally good behavior toward our fellow earthlings. He is coming down from Tehachapi to demonstrate how he makes every show a special event for everybody who attends. “It is simple, really. With James Lee you get great songs, great guitar playing, great voice and a gifted comedian as well.
