Taught by artist educator Yael Kent, your preschool age child will explore various crafts across a variety of mediums, like nature crafts in the garden, bubble making wands, nature weaving, and fossils with clay. We will explore through sensory activities, crafts and stories while developing fine motor skills. Littles learn best by doing and playing. We practice handwork and workplay. We “play” with natural objects and materials! Each project is planned so that children build skills while satisfying their need to explore. Projects are safe, non-toxic, earth friendly, and full of creativity. It’s important that your child bring water in a refillable bottle and a snack (no candy or peanut products please) in case they are hungry or thirsty during this time. In addition, if your child is enrolled in a nearby camp elsewhere in Liberty Station in the afternoon, and their camp begins as ours ends, we are happy to walk your child to their next camp. If you’d like your camper to stay during the lunch hour from 12-1pm, for a fun, supervised space to eat their lunch (not provided) and a craft afterward, visit Lunch Supervision.   • SAN DIEGO, CA - The San Diego River Artists’ Alliance (SDRAA) will exhibit work celebrating the San Diego River and its ecosystem in a exhibition titled “Ebb and Flow: Art Along the River” at the Point Loma Public Library October 3 - December 30, 2024. - 4 p.m. A portion of the sales will be donated to the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF). SDRAA is a collective of twenty-two visual and 3D artists from around San Diego County who hike and spend time along the San Diego River from its source in mountains near Julian to the ocean. The artists create artwork about the San Diego River and its ecosystem to celebrate its history, beauty and promise and to encourage the public to connect with the variety of experiences available along the river. The work includes acrylic, photography, mixed media, glass, watercolor, oil, color pencil, fiber arts, paper, ceramic, and polymer clay.   • November 23, from 9:30 a.m. - Noon It’s time to get into the Winter spirit by creating Glass Nightlights or Ornaments for yourself or a special someone on your gift list. Join Instructor Suzanne Balestri on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to make holiday ornaments such as snowmen, penguins, Judaica, candles, wreaths, Christmas trees, elves, etc. Keep the season’s inspiration going, and design a nightlight to add a soft seasonal glow to any room. (Nightlight mechanism will be provided.) You’ll have a wide selection of glass colors, textures and patterns to create one-of-a-kind winter treasures. No previous glass experience needed. Suzanne will help you along the way, and will send you instructional glass cutting and grinding videos in advance of the workshop so you can become familiar with several techniques before class. All glass art will be kiln-fired after class and ready for pick up at the Collective a few days later. A $15 (cash only) materials fee is due to the instructor at the start of the class. Adults and Teens of all levels are welcome!
