  • VOCA Music continues its popular concert series, Happy Opera Hour, with Love is in the Air, an opera concert celebrating love! Enjoy an evening filled with favorite opera love arias, duets, and scenes paired with delicious wines in the beautiful atmosphere of historical Liberty Station. We are thrilled to have Sommptuous Selections curating the wines for the evening to perfectly complement the musical selections. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided. Featured artists includes: tenor Felipe Prado, baritone Matthias Villwock, and pianist Justin Gray, as well as VOCA Music founders soprano Diana Naatz and soprano Sandra Villwock. Proceeds and donations go to local youth music programs. This program includes a talk about the dynamic history and future of art fused with science with bio-artist Paul Vanouse and scientist Solon Morse. A hands-on workshop will give students the opportunity to create art with biology and experimental imaging methods. Vanouse has been working in emerging media forms since 1990 and is the recipient of prestigious international awards. Co-helming the Coalesce Center for Biological Art and collaborating on several art science projects, Morse guides artists through genomics and analysis.   • Don’t miss the free Downtown Chula Vista Block Party on Friday, July 8, from 4 to 9 p.m. on historic Third Avenue between E Street and Park Way. This kick-off to summer event will feature a low rider car show, multiple vendors, live music, entertainment, children’s fun zone, and more. A highlight of the event will be recognition of Chula Vista Champions for their diverse contributions to the community at 5 p.m. on the Main Stage near E Street. The City will recognize more than 3,000 individuals/groups for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as other community, scholastic and athletic achievements. In addition to the above activities, at 6:40 p.m., there will be a San Diego Padres Watch Party on a giant screen located on the corner of Third Avenue and Davidson Street. The Padres vs Giants game also will be aired in many Third Avenue businesses. Several food and snack trucks will be on hand for food purchases or visit one of the many restaurants or breweries along Third Avenue. The Sesame Place Children’s Fun Zone will have activities for the little ones and a Prize Patrol will be giving random lucky winners two free tickets to Sesame Place.
