Alejandro Morales Riveron is a local San Diego contemporary artist whose work is rooted in culture, nature, history and community. This exhibition presents a poignant exploration of the intersection between art, community and environmental justice. Through a series of downsized pillars and prints, Riveron offers a visual commentary on the impact of air pollution on the vibrant Chicano Park neighborhood. *The exhibition is open to the public on the 2nd floor during library hours.

Trilogía del Dolor is an exploration of human pain through music and poetry. It aims to musically portray a real human experience of pain, one that goes beyond its idealizations, helps open conversations about it, and contributes to transcend misunderstandings and taboos around it. The trilogy features the poetry of Mexican contemporary poets Nuria Manzur-Wirth, Ricardo Cázares, Tania Favela, Nadia Mondragón, and Mónica Morales Rocha, plus texts written by the composer. The performance will feature vocalists Mariana Flores Bucio and Miguel Zazueta, clarinetist Madison Greenstone, cellist Rocío Sánchez, percussionist Camilo Zamudio, and flutist/composer/narrator Wilfrido Terrazas. Inspired by popular hacks that facilitate movement and sustain connections across borders. The exhibition borrows its title from the popular 1971 song written and originally recorded by The Bee Gees – and extensively covered in English and Spanish – to call attention to the harsh immigration enforcement & policies along the U.S./MX border. All while pointing to the vital need to propose and rehearse ways our interconnected communities can mend what has been broken.
