  • One hundred years to the day after the historic discovery of King Tut’s tomb, "Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience," a new exhibition created in partnership with the National Geographic Society, will bring the magic and mystery of Ancient Egypt to the San Diego area, opening at the Wyland Center at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a limited run beginning Jan. 27, 2023. Bringing to life the storied archives of the National Geographic Society in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of King Tut’s tomb discovery (November 1922), the highly anticipated exhibition combines the power of cinematic storytelling and soaring imagery to invite visitors into the golden king’s world like never before. This exhibition goes beyond a traditional artifact display using the power of photography and technology, ensuring that the artifacts from King Tut’s tomb remain in their country of origin. The multi-gallery, multi-sensory exhibition whisks guests on a time-traveling adventure to Ancient Egypt. With nine galleries to explore, "Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience" unlocks the 3,300 year old story of King Tut – his rule as a child pharaoh, his family, the discovery of his tomb and the mysteries surrounding his early death, and his journey to the afterlife.
  • Give From Your Heart Holiday Gift Drive to Benefit Promises2Kids. Toy drive will support the 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego County Promises2Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a brighter future for the 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego County, is collecting new unwrapped gifts and gift cards to distribute to San Diego’s foster children this holiday season. The Give From Your Heart Holiday Gift Drive is presented by Carmel Mountain Preschool, and invites the community to join together to support foster children this holiday season. On December 12, Carmel Mountain Preschool will hold a drive from 9 to 11 A.M. and the community is invited to drop off a gift and take a photo with the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who and Santa. Gifts can also be purchased online at Amazon and shipped to Promises2Kids (9400 Ruffin Court, Suite A, San Diego, CA 92123), or can be dropped off at Promises2Kids or at bin locations now through December 14. “We are so grateful to see how the community has come together to support foster children during the holidays year after year.” said Tonya Torosian, CEO of Promises2Kids. “Carmel Mountain Preschool has been a long-time supporter of Promises2Kids, and with the community’s support, we are able to make the holidays a little brighter for foster children.” Promises2Kids annually provides over 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego County with the tools, opportunities, and guidance they need to address the circumstances that brought them into foster care, overcome the difficulties of their past, and grow into healthy and successful adults.   • The Straytones are back this summer for a fun night of music and dancing to your favorite hits in the Mission Pavilion. Ticket prices include one drink ticket. This is storytelllng at its best--no notes--Moth style. Expect personal, folkloric and literary tales to thrill and chuckle over with the theme of Tradewinds, Tides and Tales, all influenced by the Ocean Beach seaside atmosphere. We welcome new voices to the Tellabration!™ stage, Catherine Bonin and Carol Jaksa. Returning storytellers are San Diego stalwarts, Jim Dieckmann, Patti Christensen/James Nelson-Lucas (The Patchwork Players,) Fred Laskowski, Arlyn Hackett, David Schmidt and Marilyn McPhie. The evening is designed for those ages 12 and up. There will be a book table with the direction, "take one or more, toss a donation into the basket."
