Starting with a soft merino wool, you will be creating your own one-of-a-kind flower choosing from a wide selection of dyed wool. After using soap and water to bind the fibers, you will take home a forever flower that will embellish any space. Your flower can be used as a bookmark, tied around a curtain or the strap of a purse, placed in a vase or given as a sweet gift…. The possibilities are endless! No experience necessary.   • Comic-Con’s 2024 Masquerade on-stage costume competition, a tradition at Comic-Con since 1974, will be Saturday evening, July 27, starting at 8:30 p.m. The event celebrates not only the contribution of costuming to the popular arts but also the amazing creations that our attendees make and bring to the convention. The costume presentations, intermission entertainment, and awards presentation will run approximately two and a half hours and be set in the convention center’s 3,900-seat Ballroom 20, with overflow seating available with large screens in the Sails Pavilion and in a second ballroom. Lissa-Jane de Sailles lives and works on Jerrinja/Wandi Wandian Land on the south east coast of New South Wales, Australia. Lissa-Jane teaches fiber art locally and internationally and works with basketry techniques to create sculptural forms and installations with locally foraged natural fibers and textiles. This is a rare opportunity for students to learn from an Australian basketry artist! Two classes in Los Angeles area are September 21 & 22, 2024, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Two classes in San Diego area (El Cajon) are September 28 & 29, 2024, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Classes are for all levels of experience and cost for each is $95 (price covers class fee, materials and teacher preparation and expenses).
