  • Union Hall Gallery presents: In Pursuit of Light, paintings by Lester Machado From July 6 – August 18 the community arts space will host new works by San Diego plein air painter Lester Machado Union Hall Gallery, a community arts space in Golden Hill, is proud to present the summer exhibition "In Pursuit of Light” in partnership with Santa Ysabel Art Gallery, featuring new works by plein air painter Lester Machado. His work reflects the enduring tradition of Plein Air Impressionism thriving in Southern California. The solo exhibition features fifty new paintings by Machado. The exhibit also includes a collection of works by renown artists who inspire and provide context for Machado’s artistic Language of contemporary realism. “I find inspiration in the unique beauty of the Light we have in San Diego. RYOKI’s concert performance will feature theatre organ favorites and Americana selections played on our 4 Manual 24 Rank 1927 WURLITZER Theatre Pipe Organ. Mr. Yamaguchi is a graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and has distinguished himself as an exceptionally talented musician in classical and theatre organ circles. He tours extensively throughout the world and has played in notable world class venues. RYOKI has a special connection with San Diego. In 2022, the American Theatre Organ Society’s National Convention was held in San Diego and he surprised and dazzled audiences as a featured concert artist. Shortly thereafter, he returned to San Diego to record a new album on our 1927 WURLIZTER. His newly released CD musically honors the connection between TOKYO and SAN DIEGO – as well as between RYOKI and our appreciative audiences. In this class, the instructor will guide you, step by step, through the making of a felted flower. Starting with a soft merino wool, you will be creating your own one-of-a-kind flower choosing from a wide selection of dyed wool. After using soap and water to bind the fibers, you will take home a forever flower that will embellish any space. Your flower can be used as a bookmark, tied around a curtain or the strap of a purse, placed in a vase or given as a sweet gift…. The possibilities are endless! No experience necessary.
