Each scene in such tales traditionally functioned as a moral vignette with valuable lessons, but recent pop culture and art has taken the idea of wonderlands even further. Movies with this device include Nightmare Before Christmas, Spirited Away and Groundhog Day. Drawing inspiration from this modality, our show celebrates the transformative power of changing context. With the freedom of a magical premise, our artists have deployed everything from intricate linework to bold dashes of color. Even at their most fun, the artworks exhibit a sophisticated whimsy that is not without dichotomies.
