From the KPBS weekend arts preview: Moondaddy performs a pre-release show at Soda Bar, alongside other acts Jackie Medoza and more. Moondaddy is helmed by multi-instrumentalist Cara Potiker, and the upcoming album "Poet Lies" will come out Aug. 18 on the Volar Records label. Moondaddy's sound is indie, moody and dreamy, evoking Beach House or Cocteau Twins with a synthed-out shoegaze sonic depth. —Julia Dixon Evans, KPBS From the organizers: moondaddy record release show! Indie dream pop artist moondaddy first began in singer/songwriter Cara Potiker’s San Diego bedroom, dreamt up as a pressure valve for the existential dread of the 2020 lockdown. During that time Potiker began diving deep into analog audio, spending hours in her bedroom songwriting and making physical demo tapes.After pairing with Texas-based producer El Cosmophonico (real name Manuel Calderon), Potiker began transforming those demo tapes into expansive reverb-soaked odysseys with her forthcoming debut album, Poet Lies. From the organizers: Jeffrey Silverstein returns in 2023 with his second full-length release: Western Sky Music. Based in Portland, Silverstein channels the natural beauty of his adopted Pacific Northwest into guitar-driven explorations of inner landscapes. The nine tracks that make up Western Sky Music advance the terrestrial themes of How on Earth EP (2019), You Become the Mountain (2020), and Torii Gates EP (2021) while lifting Silverstein’s sound to sweeping new promontories. As a solo artist, she is happy to be here telling her stories & making art that she hopes can help people find their way over the rainbow. Her sophomore album is out on Valentine's Day 2023 featuring collaborations with Rufus Wainwright, Sean Ono Lennon, STRFKR, Of Montreal, & Johnny Jewel. Twin Ritual is influenced by Synth-pop, Post- Punk and Indie. They deliver upbeat drums, swirling synths, pulsing bass, driving guitar hooks, and dreamy female vocals, the band’s members include Laura Levenhagen (vocals/synth), Anthony Ramirez of Glass Spells (bass/synths), Antonio Estrada (guitar), Michael Buehl (drums).
