A poetry writing competition will be held at PHES Gallery in conjunction with “Story Quilts.” Please join us for a creative dive into ekphrastic poetry - poetry written in response to art. The public will have the opportunity to write a poem (or poems) in response to the show at the Gallery. Submissions will be accepted through June 11. Each entry must include the quilt number, your name, and the title of your poem. Poems will be performed in the Gallery courtyard on June 25 at 5 p.m., followed by a poet's reception. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 poems.   • May 21, 28, June 4 from 1-4 p.m. This 3-week course spans a total of 9 hours of instruction. Learn to sew zippers, hoods, pockets and more – along with the importance of following grainlines, and how to properly measure your body and read a pattern. During the process, you’ll make your own hoodie or pullover. Instructor Tracey Herriot will show you simple troubleshooting tips, and walk students through the steps of sewing their own garment. Materials are provided. Note: there is a $15 material fee to be paid to the instructor at the start of the course. Some sewing experience required: you must know how to thread a machine and wind a bobbin.
