  • The American History Theater announces its first live play since the onset of COVID19 with “THIS WE’LL DEFEND”, a military-inspired show opening Dec. 3 at Light Box Theater in Liberty Station. Written by local playwright Anita Yellin Simons and directed by Missy Malloy, the play focuses on veteran issues such as Military Sexual Trauma, PTSD and veteran suicide. Simons began to write the play in 2009 when she discovered just how prevalent sexual assault and veteran suicide was for those who serve. In 2012 the play became a finalist for the Susan Nims Distinguished Playwriting Award and won a staged reading with director Randy Reinholz at the Last Frontier Theater Conference in Valdez, Alaska. In 2013, “THIS WE’LL DEFEND” had four staged readings in Prescott, AZ and was a semi-finalist in the 2013 Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center National Playwrights Conference. Now, in 2021, we are proud to feature Simons’ show in its official San Diego debut. The show will run for two weekends with an educational talkback with playwright, MST survivors and advocates after the matinee on Dec 5.
