  • Art Scene West and Matt Drey Arts are co-producing an art exhibition of recent works by two well respected, veteran SoCal landscape artists, Darrel McPherson and John Cornfield. McPherson began painting in 1970, moving from abstract in his early work at Indiana University to his career commitment to landscape impressionism, influenced by Pissarro, McPherson paints exclusively in oils and has painted continuously up to the present. McPherson estimates a career total of 1500+ paintings and he has followers all over San Diego County and throughout California. John Cornfield has been drawing and painting for over 20 years, including with many of the top plein air artists in the country. Inspired by an older generation of Southwest and California Impressionists, Cornfield's landscapes follow in their unique use of color and form. Cornfield’s paintings are found in private and public collections throughout southern California. A graduate of UCSD, Cornfield has many local San Diego followers. Many of his collectors say that his paintings evoke a sense of “vintage California”. Cornfield paints exclusively in acrylics. Screen Smart Parent Night will provide a framework, using resources and tools designed to support families on their digital parenting journey. Founded in 2018 by a trio of moms, the Screen Sanity nonprofit helps families and communities pursue digital health in order to reduce loneliness, depression, anxiety and suicide in a socially isolated society. We will do various craft projects for the garden, and have a special guest who will teach us about planting and growing flowers and food. We’ll complete garden-related projects in wood, ceramics, and other craft mediums! Our gardeners will build their garden skills literally through building projects such as a small planter box. They’ll make several quality craft projects to take home. This camp is recommended for school-age children 8yrs and up. Projects and depth of garden learning are matched up to the children’s age/ability. What to bring: A sun hat or sunscreen if your child is sensitive to sun. It’s best to dress in layers. We will be outdoors. Children need closed-toe shoes and long hair tied back. Bring a refillable water bottle and a snack. If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child transferred, let us know! If you’d like your camper to stay during the lunch hour, there’s a $20 fee for the week to cover the lunchtime gap. They can bring a lunch and have lunch with us with the option to do a fun craft after lunch.
