  • On April 29, 2023, The Shine Project Foundation will host its 3rd annual Good Vibes Reggaefest at the Helia Brewery in Vista from 3-10 p.m. This fundraiser event connects good vibes to a great cause for family and friends of all ages with some fun for everyone. Dance to the sweet tunes of reggae music, eat delicious food, relax with a chair massage, shop for some unique finds, and win amazing items from our silent auction and raffle! With over 800 attendees each year, this event is a great opportunity to showcase your business to the local San Diego community! All funds raised will go directly towards providing free enrichment and inclusive community events for children, teens, and young adults with special needs and their families.   • For a vivid evening of tales told without notes, delicious java, visit this eclectic and warm coffee cum arts and cultural events spot..."Just in Time." The evening of personal tales, twice-told folktales, and literary stories is hosted by Marilyn McPhie, and will be joined by David Schmidt with guitar, and Jim Dieckmann--all members of Storytellers of San Diego. One patron was caught saying, "I come to storytelling for a respite from the world." Storytelling is the original social media. Come and take in the humor, the pathos, the ironic, the gamut of human emotions to imagine what would of happened, if we were not just in time. Ages 12 and up.

The campaign will run throughout the month of May, in honor of National Foster Care Month. Funds raised will benefit foster children by reuniting siblings living apart in foster care, supporting foster youth in reaching their educational and career goals, providing birthday gifts, school clothes and opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, and providing an emergency shelter where children feel safe and cared for. Promises2Kids helps foster children overcome the difficulties of their past and grow to become healthy and successful adults. The community is invited to support Promises2Kids by dining in or ordering online at participating businesses. The community can also make an online gift. Want to know how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin? This class is for you! We’ll show you how to use your machine, simple troubleshooting tips, and the sewing basics. Our project will be a simple pillow case. All materials included. It’s best to bring your own sewing machine, but you may also borrow one of ours. ***If you’re attending with your child, and participating only as support, just purchase 1 enrollment.   • Monday May 8 & Friday, May 12 OR Saturday May 20 & Sunday, May 21 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome! This workshop is designed to teach students the basics of woodworking and shop safety, and serves as a strong foundation for further exploration in woodworking. In addition to what you make, our goal is for you to leave feeling more comfortable operating machinery and working in a shop environment. Students will make a cutting board, and through that process, learn how to safely use the miter saw, jointer, planer, table saw, drill press, router; as well as how to use clamps, glue up, and apply finish to their pieces. This class is a prerequisite for Wood Open Studio and recommended for further woodworking classes to establish safe practices in our studio.
