Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. The Museum of Making Music joins the celebration with a variety of fun, free activities, hands-on music-making, performances, and more! Acoustic Pop-Up Performances The Museum will transform its 270-degree immersive media gallery and lobby space into temporary small performance stages with short pop-up performances! These 30-minute performances will take place inside the museum and in our lobby. 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. StudioACE Kids Activity, StudioACE will be hosting a fun make-and-play music and arts craft for kids and families! Learn Broom Making! Students will learn about knots, culture heritage, creativity, and functional earth art. Together we will get a better sense of logical and practical craft works, as well as how to use the broom for spiritual and emotional wellbeing. Everyone will end the session with their own hand made broom/besom. Each person will learn how to use and care for their broom as a household tool and expand their awareness into the ritual of cleansing spaces. Ages 12+ years and up is recommended. Rachmaninoff made his home in the United States. In 1942, at the age of 68, he received American citizenship and bought a home in Beverly Hills, but his native home remained in his soul. Six months thereafter, a terminal illness brought forth the memory of a long-ago encounter with Russia’s last Tsar, Nicholas II, and the Tsar’s daughter, the Grand Duchess Anastasia, a memory that would haunt him until the very last. This exploration of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s itinerant but extraordinary life illuminates the master’s sense of home and family and how those elements influenced his art. Featuring his world-famous C# minor Prelude to his second piano concerto, his symphonies and his Paganini Variations, this world premiere promises to be another mystical musical journey in the Hershey Felder style that audiences have come to know and love.
