The new nonprofit Broadway Votes is corralling musical theater celebrities to help with the effort both both on stage and online.

From show tunes to Beyoncé, Lady Gaga to Lilith Fair, this premiere event will showcase the iconic songs that have become anthems of pride and liberation. Cultural Forces, the cultural arm of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, brings seven world class artists, professional musicians before the war, now active-duty soldiers, for a music tour in the United States to thank the American people. The group is composed of two bandura players, an opera singer, a violinist, a pianist, a country singer, and a poet. Artists’ repertoire presents renditions of a wide variety of music, from Ukrainian and world classics to covers of popular hits and country tunes, featuring the traditional Ukrainian string instrument, the bandura. There will be an opportunity for interaction between the audience and the artists. Don’t miss this world premiere production from actor, pianist, playwright, and producer Hershey Felder! Having safely left Russia during the 1917 revolution, legendary pianist and composer Sergei V. Rachmaninoff made his home in the United States. In 1942, at the age of 68, he received American citizenship and bought a home in Beverly Hills, but his native home remained in his soul. Six months thereafter, a terminal illness brought forth the memory of a long-ago encounter with Russia’s last Tsar, Nicholas II, and the Tsar’s daughter, the Grand Duchess Anastasia, a memory that would haunt him until the very last. This exploration of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s itinerant but extraordinary life illuminates the master’s sense of home and family and how those elements influenced his art. Featuring his world-famous C# minor Prelude to his second piano concerto, his symphonies and his Paganini Variations, this world premiere promises to be another mystical musical journey in the Hershey Felder style that audiences have come to know and love. Rachmaninoff and the Tsar stars Hershey Felder in the role of Sergei Rachmaninoff, and for the first time, Felder will play opposite another artist, British-Italian Jonathan Silvestri in the role of Tsar Nicholas II. “Rachmaninoff and the Tsar” is proudly presented by San Diego Theatres at Balboa Theatre on August 27-31, 2024. Feel free to bring snacks, or make sure that you are able to get a bite to eat before our paint and sip event. Plenty of parking is available. This is a 21+ venue. Hours of operation are Friday 4-7 p.m., Saturday & Sunday 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. We encourage artistic freedom! You can alter the painting to fit your style and use any of our colors. Things to know: We require a 48-hour notice for cancellations/rescheduling. Refunds must be requested within 3 days of purchase. After 3 days a credit will be given.
