Back to First Sunday Concerts for the third time Jazz Grass brings a musical style that is at once unique and accessible. If you haven’t heard them before, you must give them a try. If you have been lucky enough to hear them, you won’t want to miss them. Barnaby Finch has played with many, many commercially successful artists both on the road and in the studio. This is his passion project. Jazzgrass is an exciting band dedicated to toe-tappin’, accessible music, honoring the traditions of bluegrass, Appalachian music, Americana, and the jazz composers who have their ears attuned our rural homeland. Jazzgrass will be performing music written by Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Pat Metheny, Dave Grusin, Barnaby Finch, Natalie McMaster, the Allman Brothers, and many more. The Conrad comes to life for this family-friendly community event based on the theme of Create! All are invited to join in a fun day of free classes, activities, art, crafts, and performances featuring some of San Diego’s finest musicians, dancers, and artists. Musical performances will include harpist Chiara Capobianco and the Euphoria Brass Band, with youth ensembles including the Mission Bay Mambo Orchestra, Poway High School, the San Diego State University Jazz Trio, Correia Middle School, and Pershing Middle School, as well as students from LJMS’ own Community Music Center. Attendees will also have a chance to create their own music and art in an interactive drum circle with Drummers Without Borders, a hip hop dance class with Alyssa Junious, a dance workshop with Malashock Dance, and arts and crafts facilitated by Studio ACE and Elizabeth Tobias, among others. New this year, the upstairs Hoehn Gallery at The Conrad will be dedicated to an exhibit of artwork by the students of La Jolla High School’s advanced arts programs. People + Places: The Art of Street Photography Summer Camp for 6th-8th Grade July 29-Aug 2, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Location: La Jolla Historical Society, La Jolla Register Here Take your photography to the streets! Show people your world, through your eyes while exploring urban landscapes of San Diego and techniques street photographers use to capture the moments, objects, places and people that they see. Using DSLR cameras, explore the relationship between people and place as you learn about environmental portraiture, landscape photography, photojournalism, storytelling, lighting, framing and more! Equipment and snacks will be provided. This camp is open to 6th-8th grade students.
