Scheduled for August 17, 2024, this beloved event pays homage to the city's citrus heritage, once known as the "Lemon Capital of the World." From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Third Avenue will be transformed into a lemon paradise, offering a plethora of lemon-themed treats, live music, photo opportunities with Tarty the Lemon, a cook-off competition, arts and crafts vendors, and a dedicated kids' area. The Alliance Française San Diego invites you to embark on a journey through the delicate drawings of Joseph Le Dieu at the exhibition, "Promenade in Normandy," hosted at the Once Upon A Frame gallery in Solana Beach. Enjoy Le Dieu's creations from April 11th to 25th, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an opening reception on April 11th, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. "Promenade in Normandy" offers a delightful immersion into the quaint landscapes and rich history of Normandy. But who is Joseph Le Dieu? Born in 1815 in Avranches, this lawyer turned painter led a life intertwined with art, yet his fame remained confined to the borders of Normandy until recently. Catherine Marie, the current owner of Le Dieu's collection, stumbled upon his works tucked away in a trunk. Since then, in partnership with the French Embassy in Washington, the drawings have journeyed from Edinburgh to San Francisco, garnering recognition from the prestigious Orsay Museum in Paris. "We are thrilled to share this remarkable collection with the San Diego community," expresses Julie Ripoll, Executive Director of the Alliance Française San Diego, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting French language and culture. In addition to French classes, the Alliance Française organizes events such as the SD French Film Festival scheduled for June. The exhibition, which presents a portion of the whole collection, is hosted in the gallery space of Once Upon a Frame, a high end framer, renowned among artists, collectors, and designers in San Diego. The 47th annual Mt. Carmel Tournament of Bands, one of Southern California’s largest and oldest high school marching band competitions, is set for Saturday, Oct. 26 at Mt. Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos. The tournament will showcase the music and artistic pageantry of 30 high school marching bands from across Southern California and will feature both parade and field show competitions. Field show performances by small bands will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mt. Carmel’s Sundevil Stadium, followed by a free parade band review from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the school’s parking lot. Field shows with large bands are planned from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Sundevil Stadium. Food, drink and merchandise concessions will be available throughout the day and evening. Tickets for the field shows can be purchased the day of the tournament at the stadium ticket window. General admission prices are $15 for adults; $12 for students, seniors and military; and free for children 5 and under. The tournament is the single-largest fundraiser for the school’s music program. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Mt.
