Housed inside a yeast factory producing brewers' yeast since 1995, White Labs San Diego Kitchen & Tap was started in 2012 as a way to showcase the influence and impact yeast fermentation has on beer. At the end of the brewer’s day, we will use their fresh, spent grain and work it into a beautiful artisan bread. This special edition of Grainbakers breadmaking class will incorporate Active Dry Yeast AND WLP101 as leavening agents. Grainbakers offers spent grain bread-making classes at your favorite brewery. Our classes are for everyone from the rookie baker and the beer geek or home brewer to the bread-making enthusiast. At the end of the brewer’s day, we will use their fresh, spent grain and work it into a stunning boule of bread. Guests will make the Grainbakers Spent Grain Artisan Bread Dough. Once made, they can customize their bread by adding various flavors from our spice selection. With over 20 years of teaching experience, yoga instructor Sünje O’Clancy encourages students of all levels to improve overall strength, flexibility, and balance. She guides participants through thoughtfully designed hatha yoga flow sequences that include a centering mediation, a variety of poses, breathing techniques, and a final relaxation. The award-winning Coastal Communities Concert Band will present its premier performance at the Kit Carson Park Amphitheater, 333 Bear Valley Parkway, Escondido on Sept. 21, 2024, at 5 p.m. The program will consist of toe-tapping hit songs of yesteryear, including Broadway and movie favorites and a couple patriotic numbers. Admission will be a flat fee of $10 per adult age 18 and over, with free admission for those 17 and under. San Diego artist, Liz Kennedy, opened a solo show this month with the City of Encinitas Visual Arts Program: “Bodies in Rest and Motion”. The show continues until May 9, 2024, and Encinitas will hold an Art Night on March 9th, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The event celebrates the artists and the art scene at various locations with music and activities and is free to the public. The show is all figurative work made in the last three years. Thirty artworks, mostly oil paintings with some mixed media works, line the hallway of the Encinitas Community Center. The artist works from models, and/or photographs to create her paintings, but the final result is not photographic, but painterly. “Risk and surrender” are some of Liz Kennedy’s watchwords. She is ready to learn, to fail and to try other flavors besides “pretty”— like illogical, corny, imperfect. The shapes and feelings of people, their bodies, their faces always draw her in, as well as the natural world. She is inspired by the attitudes, bravery and work of artists like Maggie Hambling, Frank Auerbach, David Park, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Fairfield Porter and Alice Neel. Her work is unique because of the way personal way she absorbs the world - she respects what she takes in and seeks to honor what she takes in with bravery and attention. The City of Encinitas provides art exhibitions as a service to local artists, providing economic benefit from the sale of art and exposure to a wider audience while beautifying public buildings in Encinitas. The Civic Arts Program, established in 1998, serves artists, arts organizations, and the community through programs in the visual and performing arts, and is overseen by the Cultural Arts Division and Commission for the Arts. Also showing in the same space are artworks from the San Dieguito Art Guild and Misti Washington Gourd and Basket Guild. The show can be seen at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas, CA, and is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. S P A C E Pro Showcase is a final presentation of our 2024 S P A C E Pro Studio Residency program with Resident Artists, Cecily Holcombe, Victor De La Fuente, and Greta Nuñez. Through a 10-week artist residency process at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, La Jolla, our selected Resident Artists delved into research and development of new works. Join us for the culminating event of this process, to see what their creative research and exploration has yielded. Tickets are $15 for artists/students and $25 for the general public. The program probes religion & society themes imbedded in significant films. Images in these films exemplify the mission of Burke in ways that contrast and compliment the keynote Lectures. Moving images are the new Lingua Franca of our times and instill in our communications much demanded new avenues of perception.
