  • R.B. STEVENSON GALLERY is delighted to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Forest Bathing," showcasing a stunning collection of new paintings by San Diego-Los Angeles artist Jeanne Dunn. We would like to invite you to join us and meet the artist at the opening reception on Saturday September 7 from 5 - 8 p.m. Forest Bathing is the title of this new body of work because it relates to my current paintings and the motives behind their creation. The phrase comes from Japan, where the practice of shinrin-yoku, or literally “forest-bath,” is the name for the time-honored practice of walking in the woods for its benefits to the mind and body, a departure from one’s cares. My bold colors and semi-realistic forms take their cue from this idea of immersion in sensations and individual experiences of an arboreal place. By offering the unexpected in form, shape, and color, these tree-filled “scenes” aim to challenge our assumptions of what we might see along a wilderness trail. They express the joy of abandoning the familiar and encountering a new world that is vibrant, animated, and perhaps mysterious.   • In this 4-week ceramic hand-building series, students will create functional and nonfunctional ceramic work using a variety of techniques and their imaginations. They will learn how to create with coils, slab construction and clay pinching methods. Students are so proud when they see the beauty of the final results as their pieces come out of the kiln. Students will create multiple pieces in this series, and learn how to glaze bisque ware for a finished piece of artwork. All materials included. Projects are changed regularly, so students can return month after month to continue to develop their skills! Drop-ins are welcome! Is your child curious about ceramics & taking this class?
