  • Promises2Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a brighter future for current and former foster children in San Diego County, is holding an exclusive evening of dinner and music to benefit foster children. The 15th Annual Dream On Concert Gala is presented by Kevin and Raegan Prior and will be hosted by Joan Waitt at her La Jolla estate home on Monday, September 9, 2024. The event will feature a sunset cocktail reception, elegant dinner, and silent and live auctions, followed by a private concert with acclaimed recording artist, Kool & The Gang. Each year is a sell out and raises critical funds benefiting foster children of all ages. Many people find Modern Calligraphy attractive to learn because it allows them to create beautiful, fun, and hand-crafted letters that are unique and personal. Modern Calligraphy is often characterized by its use of thick and thin lines, giving the letters a dynamic and expressive quality.   • This lecture develops a theory of ‘postcapitalist aesthetics’, specifically within the context of rural landscapes. The theory brings a relational and pluralistic environmental aesthetics into conversation with various concepts, ‘postpastoral’, ‘socionatures’, and ‘commoning’, before exploring how some art practices may support human-ecological relationships of care and resistance. Emily Brady is Professor of Philosophy at Texas A&M University. Her research expertise extends to aesthetics and philosophy of art, environmental philosophy and eighteenth-century philosophy. Her most recent book is Between Nature and Culture: The Aesthetics of Modified Environments (2018, with Isis Brook and Jonathan Prior). Cosponsored by the Values Institute and the Humanities Center.
